Art
We aim to promote the children’s enjoyment of art, inspiring them to use a range of different techniques and skills. Our approach aims to develop a whole range of skills year on year and provide opportunities for individual personalities and talents to shine through. We aim to provide a programme which builds upon the children’s previous experience and skills and extends their capabilities even further. Within our school environment, we aim to demonstrate the value and status of art by displaying it in classrooms and shared areas of the school.
How our Art curriculum is delivered:
All children will be taught the skills and knowledge of art as outlined in the National Curriculum. Year group specific targets are then mapped out to ensure that the curriculum is covered in full and to ensure progression from the Reception year up to Year 6. The children will have regular opportunities to revisit and develop their skills in painting, drawing, printmaking, textile work, modelling and sculpture.
Art activities are organised by the individual class teacher for their class and are usually linked to the topic or themes that the class are currently working on. During the course of their work they will be introduced to the work of famous artists and traditions from all over the world.
A record of the children’s work may be kept in their sketchbook, topic book or on our digital platform ‘See-saw’.
We encourage ‘real life’ artists from outside school and members of our local community to work with the children on art projects to enrich our curriculum offer and to bring the children’s work to different audiences.
Impact
In embedding arts, culture and creativity across our school, we have achieved the Gold Artsmark Award.
