Supporting Your Child with English

Supporting your child

Please find attached documents to support you to help your child with their English skills.

Phonics and Homelearning

Please find attached some resources to help assess your child's strengths and next steps. These assessments would usually be carried out within school to ensure that our teaching is pitched at the correct level; however, we have attached some assessment tools here to enable you to support your child whilst their learning is primarily from home.

Reading with you child

It is important to read with your child regularly to help them develop a love of reading. Children should share books for pleasure often. It's hugely beneficial to children if they can have a bedtime story each night and it's also important that children see their parents as readers. Children will take home books from school to support them with their reading skills and you should take time to listen to them read and provide feedback in the reading record book. If your child stumbles over a word you should make a note of this word.
