Our School Council is made up of children from Years 1-6, with an additional Year 6 member representing Reception. The children are voted onto the School Council following successful 'Hustings'. Each interested child prepares a speech, detailing why they feel they would be a good counsellor. They present this to their class and each class member then votes.
This academic year the children have planned and delivered the 'BBC Children in Need Fair' in our school hall, working with a group of children from Cartmel Priory Secondary School. They designed games and activities, as well as making items to sell at the fair. All proceeds went to this worthy cause.
The School Council have also been working on our 'Worship Cloths Project' with a local volunteer. We are creating worship cloths linked to each of the liturgical colours. They worked together to select elements of the designs submitted and piece them together to get the finished design. We have nearly completed the green cloth which is looking beautiful, decorated in crosses, acorns, leaves and flowers. The next cloth we will work on will be the white one.
Forthcoming projects include a 'No Electricty Day' and a 'Justice Day', where we will be working with the local community, including magistrates, solicitors and police to look at what this really means.
The School Council are also helping lead our 'Bright Stars Competition' in which we are working with Cartmel Racecourse to 'grow' the £50 from CforLP (Centre for Leadership Performance). Further information can be found at www.cforlp.org.uk
