Class 2 - The Sunflowers 2017 - 2018

Mr Dunstan

Mr Dunstan

I am the Class 2 teacher. I love teaching English as I used to be a newspaper reporter. Big football fan - Barrow AFC season ticket holder and Evertonian.

Welcome to Class Two

Class Two is a mixture of Year 3 and 4 children

The class teaching is split between Mr Dunstan and Mrs Stagg (who is currently on maternity leave).

Along with the rest of the school we teach in a fun, creative, cross curricular way through a range of topics over the year covering aspects of the National Curriculum for both year groups. We have a two year rolling programme which ensures all children cover all aspects of the NC over their two years in the class.

Spring term - 2018

Topic - this term we are exploring prehistoric Briatin in 'As time began', before moing on to 'the water revolution' in the second half term.

History/Geography - a historical exploration or early man, looking back at the historical period known as the 'stone age' through the 'bronze age'.

Science - To begin with, we'll be exploring forces and magnets before moving on to the water cylce and states of matter later in the term.

PE - this term we will be swimming on a Wednesday afternoon, so please remember you swimming kit (including swimming constume and towel in a bag you don't mind getting wet). As well as this, we'll be focussing on gymnastics and dance this term.

Music - we will continue to follow the Charanga music programme, exploring the song 'three little birds' and 'the dragon song'.

Computing - as well as following the age-appropriate Purple Mash computing scheme will be exploring internet safety.

Reading: Children are heard reading twice a week - either 1:1 with their own book or as part of a guided reading session.  They also experience weekly reading comprehension activities.

Handwriting: We follow a handwriting programme called Letter-Join.  This is an online interactive resource which aids the practice of cursive handwriting and uses interactive animations to demonstrate joined up letter formation.
