Class 2 - The Sunflowers 2018 - 2019

Mr Dunstan

I am the Class 2 teacher. I love teaching English as I used to be a newspaper reporter. Big football fan - Barrow AFC season ticket holder and Evertonian.

Welcome to Class Two

Class Two is a mixture of Year 2, 3 and 4 children

We like to explore subjects through our topic work, where possible. This means we have a rich curriculum that makes links across the subjects when appropriate.  We have a two year rolling programme which ensures all children cover all aspects of the NC over their two years in the class.

Autumn term - 2018

Topic - have you ever wondered what the Anglo Saxon invasions of Britain were like? Or how it must have felt to be a Viking on a long boat rowing across the North sea? You have? Excellent, because our topic this half term is Anglo-Saxons and Vikings!

History/Geography - we will be exploring events in our country's past from the Roman exit of Britain, leading up to the events of 1066. Through human and physical geography studies, we will get to know more about life in Anglo-Saxon/Viking Britain and how events of historical importance unfolded, hopefully with a fun trip to see some genuine local Viking artefacts!

RE - for the first half term we will be learning about Christian and Muslim understadning of thankfulness in their lives, before exploring why light is a key feature in the Christmas story in the second half term.

Science - we will be looking at all things rocks for the first half term, followed by animals, including humans, in the second half term.

PE - for the Autumn term, we will have weekly football sessions with the Westmorland FA on a Monday and mutli-skills coaching on a Wednesday.

Music - we will continue to follow the Charanga music programme

Computing - we will be exploring the world of computer coding and learning how to touch type.

DT - through our topic, we will be researching Viking long boats and designing and making our own, before evaluating the finished project.

Reading: children are heard reading twice a week - either 1:1 with their own book or as part of a guided reading session.  They also experience weekly reading comprehension activities.

Handwriting: we follow a handwriting programme called Letter-Join.  This is an online interactive resource which aids the practice of cursive handwriting and uses interactive animations to demonstrate joined up letter formation.

Times tables: we love using Times Tables Rockstars in Class 2! It's a fun, interactive way of learning times tables using an online game - use your school login to have a go!

Times Tables Rockstars!
