Class 2 - The Sunflowers 2016 - 2017

Mr Dunstan

Mr Dunstan

I am the Class 2 teacher. I love teaching English as I used to be a newspaper reporter. Big football fan - Barrow AFC season ticket holder and Evertonian.

Mrs Stagg

Mrs Stagg

Hello!!

I am a very lucky lady. I have had the pleasure of teaching at Cartmel now for just over 6 years. I love its family feel, the fun creative curriculum and the school's stunning surroundings.

I have recently married over in St James Church in Arnside where I grew up. I live over near Ulverston with my husband, one year old daughter Eleanor and our cat Jasper.

I love the outdoors and enjoy growing my own vegetables and spending time with my family.

Welcome to Class Two

Class Two is a mixture of Year 3 and 4 children - there are 20 in total.

The class teaching is split between Mr Dunstan and Mrs Stagg (who is currenlty on maternity leave). We also have Miss Lowther as a class support and Miss Lace who carries out intervention work across all classes.

Along with the rest of the school we teach in a fun, creative, cross curricular way through a range of topics over the year covering aspects of the National Curriculum for both year groups. We have a two year rolling programme which ensures all children cover all aspects of the NC over their two years in the class.

Summer term - 2017

Topic - 'where we live'

Geography/history - investigating through our topic, children will be learning about early settlements and using map skills to locate features, eventually creating their own map. We'll also be exploring the history and importance of Cartmel Priory and Hampsfell.

Science - animals including humans. We will be looking at the requirements of living things - from nutrition to bones and muscles.

Design and technology - we will 'hopefully' be using the carrots sewn in our last science project to create soup, as well as exploring other food preparation.

PE - we will be receiving coaching from Cumbria Cricket throughought the first half-term, followed by athletics coaching in the second half-term.

RE - what do stories form Islam teach Muslims about how to live their lives?

Computing - animations and simulations.

Reading: Children and heard reading twice a week - either 1:1 with their own book or as part of a guided reading session.  They also experience weekly reading comprehension activities.

Handwriting: We follow a handwriting programme called Letter-Join.  This is an online interactive resource which aids the practice of cursive handwriting and uses interactive animations to demonstrate joined up letter formation.
