L'Enclume Cooking Experience

Date: 10th Oct 2018 @ 7:37pm

What a morning cooking the soup at L'Enclume!  I accompanied four Class 3 pupils to the experimental kitchen at Aulis.  Killion, one of the amazing chefs, took us under his wing and had us all peeling the potatoes, deseeding the squash, preparing them with seasoning for the roasting, cooking and blending.  We enjoyed a guided tour of the main kitchen, met the team, looked into the restaurant and had a peep at the bakery.  The whole team were so welcoming and we all learnt so much.  This has been the final part of this 'Squash Project', which started some months ago, when the whole school visited 'Our Farm' at L'Enclume to pot the seeds.  A further group visited the farm again before the summer holidays to plant out the squash in one of their large beds.  On Monday of this week, another group went to Harvest them, cutting and washing the squash and clearing the bed for the next crop.  Today's visit to the kitchen completed the cycle.  The soup is being delivered to school tomorrow and the children will be able to bring some home to taste their efforts!  Please remember it contains chicken stock and bacon, so not vegetarian!  We will be continuing our link with L'Enclume going forwards and I look forward very much to seeing how things develop in the future.  Mrs Battersby
