Headteacher Friday Update 10th May 2019

Date: 9th May 2019 @ 8:57pm

I do hope you all had an enjoyable Bank Holiday weekend.  At least the weather was fine for us, unlike this cold snap we are now experiencing!  A number of children savoured their 'Sharing Memories' lunch at The Priory on Tuesday.  I was very proud of the children's ability to engage in conversation with the community members present.  They conducted themselves admirably and were a credit to our school.

We have had a visitor to school over the last couple of weeks, Karina Hofman.  She is a researcher and lecturer from the University of Greenland and is over in England looking at creative writing in primary schools.  Apparently, in Greenland, schools operate very differenly in their teaching of writing.  Karina has been in the different classes, observing how we teach this over here and talking to the staff and children about their experiences.  It is an enriching opportunity, both for her and us.  We are learning about a different way of life in Greenland (the children in class 1 enjoyed finding the country on maps during the Geography day!)  We hope that this can be a lasting partnership which will broaden horizons for all concerned.

Thank you to those who voted for the Easter Gardens in The Priory.  We raised approximately £75 towards the Children of Hope Charity supporting schools in Uganda.  We are well on our way to raising the money needed for a whole school trip for the children in one Ugandan school.  As a church school, it is good to know that we can use our Chrisitan Values to support those less fortunate than ourselves in this way.

Next week is an important week for our Year 6s as they sit their SATS tests.  We wish them well and I am sure that they will all do their very best, which is everything we could ask for!  Sleep well and rest up over the weekend Year 6!

Best wishes,

Mrs Battersby
