Artsmark Celebration Week

Date: 8th Oct 2019 @ 4:12pm

We've had a super couple of days with our visiting artists.  On Monday, Tori  - an animator on the Lego movies, worked across school to show the children her drawings, how these were changed and amended during the creative process and how they finally become reality in film.

Mrs Beston shared her knowledge of sheep breeds, preparing fleece, carding and hand spinning, also demonstrating her spinning wheel for all the children.  She also talked about the variety of materials used to hand dye her yarns.

It was great to have such opposite crafts to begin the week!

Today the children have met Wendy, a local artist, who shared her creative tools with the children. They looked at different palettes and brushes and then considered the use of recycled materials in 3D art.  They also considered how art is transformative and can change perceptions.

One child was spotted at the painting easel in class 1 following her visit and said "I didn't realise I was an artist!"  They then continued to paint quietly for the next half hour.  Testament indeed to the wonderful benefit from the week already!

Fran, a fused glass artist was also in school this morning, sharing her delightful work with the children throughout the school.  They were captivated with the glass work and asked some interesting questions.  Fran was very impressed with the children, both in their behaviour and interest for her art.

We visited church this afternoon for the Harvest Service and walked in to the amazing Ruskin Movement exhibition.  They have agreed to sort out a time for the children to visit and learn some more about this craft, which ties in beautifully with all we are learning about during our Artsmark journey.

We're looking forward to the next few days...
